The Journey Begins

In September 2013 we began our adoption journey, on our way to finding you. We don't know you yet and we don't know where you are, but we know you are on your way to us.

After the relatively uneventful, but lengthy, home study process, and a bit of a trepidatious experience of telling your older sister that she would someday soon be welcoming you, we began the journey in February 2014.

We were nervous about the expense too, to be honest. Adoption is very expensive. You aren't expensive but all the people who will help us find you need to be paid. We also think some of the money will help your birth mother. To do this, Mommy started looking for part-time work to help and, after many unsuccessful attempts, Fate and Faith opened a window for us. Out of nowhere, Mommy got a request to write a paper for an important federal agency that more than covered the initial expense. As with many things, we don't always understand how we will find our way but sometimes the way is found for us if we wait and pray. Even more than ever, we came to see this adoption was destined to happen.

So, now, we are waiting for you. We have made a book that our agency (the people who are helping us find you) is sharing with potential birth mothers. This book tells about us, about your big sister, our naughty two pets, and our home and life. We hope that this book will help your birth mother find us and know that we are the best future family for you.

Waiting. We don't know how long we'll be waiting. We hope it won't be too much longer but these things are never certain. So, we find things to do to keep ourselves occupied and prepare for your arrival. We have bought you a car seat and we have a bassinet. Mommy has made you a quilt and we have a few outfits that we're setting aside. We don't know if you'll be a girl or a boy so we try to pick out things that could fit either one. Honestly, we don't care if you're a boy or a girl - we just want you.

We also have begun preparing in thinking about names. Your big sister really likes Violet for a girl (and so do we) and we thought Patrick if you're a boy since both of your grandmothers are named Patricia.

We have also bought some books for you when you get older and ask about adoption and for your big sister to prepare her for your arrival. She's particularly excited about filling out The Big Sibling Book, which she has already begun to do. We also really like Pinky and Rex and the New Baby. Your big sister is excited but she often worries about what it will be like when you arrive. We spend a lot of time talking about you and how things will be after you arrive.

We'll work on getting your room ready this summer too. Mommy will put up some pictures to share with you once that gets done.

Until then, we wait. We try to be patient. We dream of you. We can't wait until you arrive.
